Hello, my name is Mike and I am currently a graduate student at the University of Oregon pursuing a M.S. Chemistry. I obtained my B.S. Chemistry from Virginia Tech. During my time at Virginia Tech, I have mentored other undergraduate students in both General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry concepts with consistently positive feedback, giving them a stronger confidence to do well on exams. Since my time on Wyzant, I have over a year’s worth of experience tutoring high school students as well in chemistry. The reason why I am a tutor is because I enjoy helping students learn and succeed, showing that YES you can understand chemistry even as difficult as you may find it to be.
When I first started out in college, I may have been like you. I was an environmental science major and I really didn't want to deal with anything that was chemistry related. That was until I met this one astounding professor who changed my world. He showed me that in some ways, chemistry can be fun and exciting to learn about, challenging you to think at a higher, more intuitive level. Or you just might be a high school student, just struggling to get by in your chemistry class when everything seems foreign to you. Well, I've been there too.
As your mentor, my goal is to not only help you obtain the right answers to questions but to help you understand chemistry better so that you, yourself, can bring yourself to a higher level of thinking and have "fun" as well. Michael is an excellent tutor. He is very patient and able to explain concepts with ease. My daughter went to A grades with just a couple of sessions. Michael gets back to you right away. He tutored my daughter with her high school chemistry lessons. I would highly recommend Michael.
Michael has been great help to my son this year. He was very flexible and worked around my son's schedule. My son was very relived and less stressed after his sessions with Michael.
Michael has helped my high school student tremendously. She's an AP student but struggled with some of the concepts in 10th grade Chemistry. Michael was able to clearly and concisely provide a better understanding of the subject material to my daughter and we saw an immediate improvement in her quiz grades. In addition, she feels much more confident with Michael's guidance. I highly recommend him.
Micheal is very patient with the student and he takes the time to make certain the student understands the concept.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an M.S. Chemistry Graduate Candidate from the University of Oregon, and a B.S. in Chemistry, Virginia Tech
