I would like introduce myself, my name is David. I am a professional photo retoucher and graphic creator working in the fashion industry for over 30 years. After completing my apprenticeship as a color editor I fulfilled my pledge of training four apprentices and found teaching could be that perfect fit for my skills. I enjoyed watching all these individuals progress to great careers.
My skills in production include working with content ranging from the Automotive to Fashion and Technology Industries producing captivating imagery and layouts. For me the creative process of image development through final document creation is my passion. I use photo development software such as Lightroom, Photoshop and Perfect Photo to create Images and compositions that are stunning as well as time saving. I have worked with photo studios and then post process images to meet branding requirements and use batch processing to stream line Photoshop work where and when it is possible to produce consistent file structure and color management. In addition to color work I am highly efficient in Illustrator and InDesign for logo and page layout work. I have worked for large printers including Graphic Arts Center to small printers Color Magic and large format at Colortechnology.
As a tutor I realize that students will have one or two things they wish to accomplish in a specific program and I will be happy to help them achieve their goal.
As a teacher the basics to be a successful Graphic Artist is to know the computer, operating system and hardware we use, then the the programs we use on them. The hardware we need to understand in addition to the computers are scanners, cameras, printers and a host of peripherals to keep things calibrated. The depth a student may want to explore does require a great commitment of time and money if we start from the beginning. All of which I can teach.
Photoshop has been around since 1988 and I was right there when it was introduced at Graphic Arts Center, the print shop I was working at. After working for two years on Scitex systems, Photoshop seemed like a toy but after just a day of playing I could tell Adobe was on to something and I was hooked. Now in the days of the Creative Cloud dreams really can be recreated!
I encourage anyone who wants to learn how to process original raw photos or to use a scanner or make your selfies look good or how to build pages and illustrations, schedule a lesson and learn more because learning is what makes us all interesting! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been working with InDesign for 15 years in the prepress environment pre-flighting, troubleshooting, repairing and final document creation for national deployed work. I believe this makes me well qualified to teach anyone how to properly build pages in InDesign for personal and professional documents. I am familiar with all typefaces and foundries creating fonts in OTF, TrueType and Post Script languages. Text formatting and designing with fonts are strengths I like to share. I am highly proficient in laying out pages with images, vector color blocked and illustrations with effective dramatic page creation aptitude.
