About Lawrence

Larry M has been a visiting professor teaching academic writing in the ELI at George Fox University this past year. Before returning to the US, he had taught for 8 years in Middle Eastern national universities within Oman, UAE and Qatar developing problem-based course materials which integrated conflict resolution, critical thinking and research methodology. While there, he wrote a US State Department grant for Qatar University and authored a chapter on conflict resolution and personality dynamics for TESOL Arabia's ELT management handbook. Larry taught in Japan for 8 years at different universities including Kwansei Gakuin University, where he developed two genre-based writing course books. He is a former Fulbright scholar on Church-State relations in Poland during the Solidarity movement and former coordinator of the Fulbright program in Ukraine in the early '90's. His academic background includes a BA and MA in Russian Language, Literature & East European Studies from the University of Kansas and MA TESOL from Columbia University Teachers College.

He is a qualified ESL, TOEFL, IELTS educator who has designed and taught effective academic English writing courses for foreign students. His background is also in grant writing, Fulbright Scholarship and application proposal writing. Within the past 25 years of teaching, he has helped Russian, Ukrainian, Japanese, Arabian, Chinese, Korean and Hispanic students to progress in their language studies. Specifically, he has taught academic writing of research papers, applications and editing content-based professional articles within the areas of: education, law, medicine, engineering, political science, comparative literature, history, sociology, economics and psychology. He enjoys teaching students preparing to enter undergraduate or graduate programs.

For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. I have a MA TESOL degree from Columbia University Teachers College. I am a former Fulbright Scholar in Slavic Linguistics and History at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. I am the former Coordinator of the Fulbright Program in Ukraine and the former Coordinator and course designer for academic writing at Kwansei Gakuin University School of Policy Studies in Sanda, Japan.
