About Devron

I love tutoring! Tutoring is such a great fit for me because I truly enjoy learning. I believe that education is a synchronous process: through teaching I learn, and through my studies, I in turn, am able to educate others. I have tutored a variety of ages and skill levels including: middle school students located in Korea via Skype, as well as college aged international students at locations convenient to the student. As a result of my passion in the Korean language, many of my friends and family take lessons with me in beginner level Korean. I am currently on a break from college, but upon my return, I will continue my major in Eastern Asian Language and Culture. My intense drive for knowledge and new experience is what led me to teach myself Korean through books, immersion into Korean culture, and self-study. It is this same drive that ignites my teaching ability and what would make me an deal choice as a tutor.

As a tutor I feel it is my job to bring out the best in my students. Helping them realize their potential in a positive and fun learning environment is a must for me. I believe that encouragement, praise and constructive criticism are the best ways to motivate and help a student achieve success. My goal as a tutor is not to only impart knowledge and understanding of the subject but also to build the students confidence so that they may realize the full extent of their potential without bounds. I like to assign homework that challenges the student and covers what we go over during the session. Periodic level assessments and progress reports are also something that I offer.

The skills I posses include but are not limited to: Proofreading, Editing, Reading, Vocabulary, Writing, Grammar, and Punctuation for English. As for Korean, beginner level reading, writing and speaking are my strong suits.

Fell free to email me and set up sessions at your leisure. I have no problem going to you or meeting up at a location of your choosing to ensure your comfort and that you are learning in an environment that best fits your individual learning style. My hours are extremely flexible and I do not mind working with students to schedule session, however, I require a three hour notice at the latest for cancellations.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

English has always been a passion of mine. I'm actually going to be moving to Korea to teach English in the future, I also have experience tutoring English. As a high school sophomore in high school I took a college English placement test and received one of the highest scores in the University.

Korean

I have studied the Korean language for five years and am at a semi-fluent advanced level. I have taught beginner level Korean to students in the past, and am capable of teaching students how to read, write and speak Korean at a beginner level.

Proofreading

As this pertains to English, I also enjoy editing and proofreading. As an avid reader in general, I feel I definitely have a sharp eye to catch mistakes and carefully, and efficiently correct problems. Proofreading is about patience, the patience to take the time to read something, and possibly re-read it to make sure that there are no mistakes within the writing.

Reading

Reading is an essential skill that everyone needs to posses in order to be successful in life. I am an avid reader. I mostly read for pleasure, but because I do so often, I am able to understand and comprehend many different things. I believe that reading is one of the most powerful ways to gain knowledge.

Vocabulary

I tutored vocabulary to students in Korea through Skype. Having a useful vocabulary is very important in today's society. You must be able to correctly use words in order to showcase your intelligence, and that is a useful skill that everyone needs.

Writing

Writing is the crux of my passion for English. I've written poems, short stories and am currently working on a novel. I enjoy writing immensely and I am very good at it. Reading and writing are critical to being successful in the world. I am confident that I can help students excel at writing.
