About Philip

I have over 20 years experience as a computer programmer in a wide variety of languages and databases. These include - Oracle (PL/SQL, SQLPlus, SQL Loader), SQL Server, SAP (BW and R/3), VB, COBOL, EASYTRIEVE Plus, QUIKJOB, FileMaker Pro as well as many IBM utilities. I have worked on mainframes (IBM) and Windows platforms (97, NT, XP, 7) as well as MacBook Pro (OS X series). I have a wide experience of the MS Office suite (Windows and Mac variants).

I have mentored and tutored colleagues in SQLPlus and UNIX - I have worked in customer support for various periods totaling 10 years providing answers and training to clients. I work on providing the customer with the necessary documentation and a lesson plan, practical exercises and testing to ensure understanding of the subject material.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

COBOL

I have had over 20 years as a COBOL Programmer. I have created CICS/DL1 interface programs, as well as for VSAM and QDAM databases. I have debugged existing programs as well as designing new programs from scratch.

Oracle

I have worked with Oracle 7-10i, using SQL Loader, PL/SQL, SQL Plus, Dynamic SQL, Oracle Pro C. I have worked on a Pharma Data Reference OLTP system, an RX Data Warehouse and a Student Records database. I have carried out DBA tasks (creating / modifying tables/indexes/triggers. At City University I carried out 1-to-1 training in SQL Plus for members of the support team.

UNIX

I employ the use of HP/UX, AIX to create batch scripts to run Oracle Procedures or SQL. I also us the creation of scripts to run processes on a regular basis and debug data files, send messages to clients. I have trained programmers at City University to use Unix to track processes / diagnose space and performance issues / create and delete files and directories, use vi editor.
