(University of Texas at Austin) (Intl Relations)
Hello! My name is Gabrielle, and until recently, I was an ESL teacher at a primary school in Thailand. Since then, I've been doing general science and test prep tutoring in the Tulsa area, as well as ESL teaching to adult students online. I also have experience tutoring with teens and college students in Spanish, essay-writing, philosophy, politics, and history. My two degrees are in International Relations and Letters, and I also have an TEFL certification.
I absolutely love tutoring because it gives people an experience tailored to their individual learning styles and needs, and they receive the feedback they might not get in a crowded classroom. Something I especially appreciate is seeing students enact more effective organizational and study techniques; such techniques may often not be internalized well in school since they depend so much on what makes a client unique. Lastly, I love working with clients of all ages--I've taught or tutored people in Kindergarten through college, as well as graduated professionals!
I have a TEFL certification, and was an ESL teacher in Bangkok for seven months. I'm currently an online ESL teacher, working primarily with clients working to improve their English for professional reasons. As for writing, I have ghostwritten letters for a mayor, maintained blogs and other news media for several human rights organizations and political campaigns, done PR for a world-renowned museum and archive, and written proposals to be sent to the State Department. As an honors student in International Relations, I wrote countless research papers and a thesis. Lastly, for pleasure, I enjoy writing poetry and prose.
As an International Relations student at the University of Texas at Austin, I minored in European Studies and have a certificate in Russian, East European, and Slavic Studies. (Indeed, I plan on going to grad school through a French program aimed at examining the future of European security, challenges to the EU, globalizing and regionalizing effects in Europe, Europe's relations with the Middle East, etc.) As part of the curriculum, I also took many classes in world history, anthropology, government, politics, etc.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you might have! I can't wait to meet you so that I may help you achieve your professional and academic goals. Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
