About Zach

In my three years of tutoring experience, I have gained an increasing interest in the mechanisms of learning. My students have taught me how to listen to the needs of others, how to find intellectual common ground, and how to translate complex ideas into personal language. For each student's set of strengths and weaknesses, I have learned how to personalize each teaching experience. I have discovered along the way that excellence in education is accessible to all that are willing to try, regardless of background.

I started off as a tutor within the Math department tutoring program at the University of Tulsa, and eventually became a private tutor. After including physics to my services, I continued to expand my repertoire of teaching experiences to the point that I am able to teach any course I have taken myself.

Pre-Calculus and Calculus are my longest-standing specialties, but over the years I have also tutored in Algebra, Ordinary Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Partial Differential Equations, SAT/ACT Math, and MCAT Math. My students have come from local high schools, community colleges, and universities. I have taught on-level students, AP students, adult students, and students with learning disabilities.

General Physics I and II students are my most frequent physics students, but I have also taught AP Physics and upper-level undergraduate physics. With my physics major background as inspiration, I have learned problem solving techniques that extend and apply to the realm of teaching.

If you are looking for someone to show you the right frame of mind for solving mathematical and physics-oriented problems, then I will be able to satisfy your needs!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Mathematics is my primary major for my bachelors degree. I have also been hired as a calculus tutor by the Math department, and have been tutoring the subject for three years. My set of calculus students include high-school students, university students, adult students returning after years without math, and students with learning disabilities. No student has gone through the semester without seeing great improvement!

Calculus

Mathematics is my primary major for my bachelors degree. I have also been hired as a calculus tutor by the Math department, and have been tutoring the subject for three years. My set of calculus students include high-school students, university students, adult students returning after years without math, and students with learning disabilities. Differential Equations

I have tutored differential equations for 2 years, and my first major is Mathematics at the University of Tulsa.

Linear Algebra

My degree is a BS in Mathematics and Physics. I have been tutoring for 3 years, and have tutored linear algebra on multiple occasions. As well, I led study groups in this course, in order to keep myself ahead. I completed the course with a high A grade.

Physics

My double major for my bachelor's degree includes Math and Physics. My career started as a calculus tutor in the math department, and an upper class student helping incoming physics students with the material. I have expanded my work to include high school, returning adult students, and students with learning disabilities. My physics education focused on a process by first principles, and I apply this to each physics student because I believe it is the best approach!
