I love tutoring students because I've seen students learn quickly and grow immensely when they are given the undivided attention of a teacher. In a tutoring environment, students are not afraid to ask questions and can easily focus on the excitement of learning.
I have over 20 years experience teaching and tutoring students. I've been a certified teacher in Oklahoma since 1995. I've taught students from 1st - 8th grade in Tulsa Public Schools and at Asbury United Methodist Church. I have tutored students after school individually and in group settings.
I was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma; and this where my husband of 22 years and I have raised our two sons. Our oldest son is an Eagle Scout and a Freshman at the University of Oklahoma. He plays drums in the OU band. Our youngest son is a sophomore in high school and also plays drums in band. For me, teaching is a calling. I was born to educate, encourage and empower students. I offer students my best effort and I challenge them to do the same.
My teaching certification is in Education: 1st - 8th grade with additional certifications and in Language Arts and Social Studies. I have met all the qualifications to be considered “Highly Qualified” by the Oklahoma State Department of Education to teach Language Arts and Geography in Middle School. I've also taught 5th grade Math and Science for three years. In addition to my years of experience, I provide the materials needed to help students achieve academic success.
The reason I wholeheartedly believe in tutoring is because I needed a tutor when I was in school. My tutor identified areas where I had struggled and helped to fill in those gaps. The understanding and influence of my tutor helped me become an accelerated and life-long learner. I approach tutoring with the same philosophy. My students know that they face no judgement for where they are currently and there are no limits to what they can achieve! Please contact me for more information. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
