About Courtney

My name is Courtney and I am currently a mathematics teacher at Gordon Cooper Technology Center. Previously, I taught at a High School teaching Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, and ACT Prep. I have tutored Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, Business Calc. and Linear Algebra in the past.

I am 30 years old and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2007 with a double major in Mathematics and Secondary Education in Mathematics.

My price is on the higher end ($50/hr) because my time is so valuable to me. I have a daughter (4 years), a son (9 months) and a husband who come first.

I promise to give 100% to you (or your child) during your tutoring time with me, but I expect you to give 100% as well. I will make you work hard, but you'll understand the material when I'm done.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have taught ACT Prep for 3 years. I can teach you general test taking strategies along with the math you need to master this ACT section. I can also provide you with the programs you need for your graphing calculator to be used on the ACT.

Algebra 1

The main purpose of Algebra 1 is for students to gain fluency in working with linear systems. It is the foundation for all other Mathematics courses taken in high school and/or college.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is the continuation of Algebra 1. It develops advanced algebra skills such as systems of equations, imaginary and complex numbers, and quadratics. It also introduces matrices and their properties.

Calculus

Calculus is the mathematics of change. It is a branch of mathematics that includes the study of limits, derivatives, integrals, and infinite series.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a degree in secondary education, but I have also tutored many years at Sylvan Learning Centers elementary students of all ages. I also have a child of my own that I work with.

Elementary Math

Elementary Math teaches you your four basic mathematics operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. You will also learn basic geometric shapes like triangles, squares, rectangles and circles.

Geometry

This course studies a branch of mathematics that deals with the measurement, properties, and relationships of points, lines, angles, and two- and three-dimensional figures.

Linear Algebra

I have a degree in Mathematics from Oklahoma State University which required me to take Linear Algebra, where I received an A.
For the most part, Linear Algebra is about vector spaces. It teaches you how to take problems and set them up in Matrix form to solve systems of equations or linear mappings.

Piano

I do not have a degree in Music, but took 10 years of piano lessons growing up. I competed yearly at Oklahoma Baptist University piano competitions, often receiving superior ratings.
I am not one that can hear a song and then play it, but I do know how to read music and play from there. I can teach you how to properly read and then play the music as well.
I feel equipped to teach beginners up to the intermediate pianist. I would require you to purchase your music books along with a theory book and a metronome. Lessons will have to be done in your home because I have a young child that will be too distracting.

Prealgebra

Pre-algebra teaches you the concepts you need to know to be successful in Algebra 1. You will learn the very basics of inverse operations and how to use them to solve basic algebraic equations. You will also learn how to set up an algebraic equation from a word problem and solve.

Precalculus

Precalculus is the preparation needed for Calculus. Precalculus typically does not involve Calculus, but studies the topics that will be applied in Calculus.
Precalculus differs by school. For some, it's Trigonometry and others Algebra 3. Either way I've got ya covered! ;)

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is the continuation of geometry; it’s the part of elementary mathematics dealing with angles and sides of triangles and trigonometric ratios. This section of mathematics is widely used in navigating, surveying, and engineering.
