Ashford University (Phycology)
I developed a love for tutoring at a very young age, as I use to help my brother prepare for the vast majority of his tests and quizzes. I continued my unofficial tutoring career even when going to college, and tutored two of my classmates through philosophy class. This interest made it natural for me then, that I should find employment as a tutor or teacher of some kind. I began working for American School in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan as an English teacher and quickly became a favorite teacher for the students there for my logical teaching style, as well as for how effective my instruction was. All of my students were able to successfully pass the TOEFL, and received fairly good grades.
Although I tutor a number of different subjects, and am currently finishing my last year of college for psychology with a 4.0 GPA, I consider the English language to be my specialty. I passed the critical reading portion of the SAT with a perfect score, and have always had a propensity for learning languages. I spent 5 years in the United States Marine Corps as a linguist, and am fluent in Russian and Pashto in addition to my native language.
I am very flexible with my time scheduling, and very willing to accommodate. I hold myself to a very high standard, and one can always expect me to be professional, courteous, and pleasant. My teaching style is very logical, and I always tailor a teaching plan to a specific individual rather than having a single, one-size-fits-all plan that I shoe-horn students into.
I look forward to hearing from you and assisting you in your studies and future endeavors! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My father became a missionary when I was 4 years old. I spent my entire life surrounded with and studying Bible doctrine. I have taken a number of college level Bible classes, including hermeneutics, and am intimately familiar with both basic and complex Biblical issues, teachings, and theories.
I was a member of the United States Marine Corps for five years. During this time, I always achieved a first-class physical fitness test (PFT) and combat fitness test (CFT). The PFT consists of running 3 miles, performing 20 pull-ups, and doing 100 sit-ups in 2 minutes. Additionally, I took a body building class in college, and am familiar with the various mechanics of weight lifting.
I have been taking martial arts for 8 years now. I have taken Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Escrima, MCMAP, Karate, and Shou Shu. While taking Shou Shu in Monterey, the Shan Shifu tasked me with tutoring several of the lower ranking members of the dojo and I attended a martial arts instructor course there at the dojo once a week.
