I am a Paraprofessional who works at the Shawnee early childhood center. I have work with children and adults who have disabilities with learning. I enjoy helping students to be the best that they can be. I have been in this field for roughly 20 years. I would love the opportunity to help other children who need the extra assistance. I am currently enrolled in College and I am working towards my teaching degree. I have a AA in Psychology.

I have spent years working with people who have a disability. In this time, I have taught functioning skills, attention skills, daily living skills, math skills, reading skills and social skills. I love being able to help others succeed. I find it is important when teaching to encourage the person and that each individual is different. It is important to be able to teach in different mannerisms to assist individuals to meet the criteria needed.

Math can be taught several ways. However, what makes me teaching math unique is making math fun. There are games you can use which allows the student to learn easier. Finding the individuals strength allows the person who is tutoring to be able to make it fun to learn.

When it comes to writing, finding topics that interest the individual helps them to succeed. Once an individual finds that writing can be fun, they begin to retain the information and begin to write with enthusiasm.

With ADHD, it is important to challenge the individual. Most individuals who have ADHD get bored easily. They get distracted. They tend to learn easier if they are challenged and if they can move from one assignment to another and back again. Correlating the subjects allows the individual to progress.

Spelling can be fun and be taught when correlations and word plays are used. Sounding out the syllables can help the individual.
