University of Oklahoma (Classics)
I graduated in 2006 from University of Oklahoma with my BA in Classics and my minor in Latin. I am a certified high school Latin teacher. I have been teaching in the public school system for eight years and am still currently employed as a high school Latin teacher. I am 32 years old and have my BA in Classics and a minor in Latin from the University of Oklahoma. I can tutor students who are struggling with their Latin or English (grammar only please, I'm not well-versed in any literature that's not 2,000 years old). I also offer the opportunity for you to START taking Latin from the beginning for anyone looking to learn it that doesn't have access to it (i.e. not offered at available institutions).
I took Latin as a requirement for my Classics major and ended up loving it. I am constantly teaching English grammar in my classroom. It is essential to have a sufficient knowledge of English grammar in order to learn any other language that you don't know. In fact, before I teach any new grammar concept, we learn it in English first.
Most of the kids who take my class end up loving it. It is my job to find something you love about whatever it is we're learning and focus on that. If you like having fun and learning at the same time, give me a shot! Even if you don't like learning, I have a knack for helping you learn without even knowing you're learning. I can be sneaky like that. I look forward to hearing from you! I graduated in 2006 from University of Oklahoma with my BA in Classics and my minor in Latin. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Classics from the University of Oklahoma and have been teaching Latin for 8 years. In my classroom, we also focus heavily on Greek and Roman history, culture, and architecture in addition to Latin. I was a member of Eta Sigma Phi at OU (Classics and Letters academic fraternity) as well as the American Classical League. I am currently in the process of starting a Greek and Roman Mythology course at my high school that will also focus on Greek and Roman history and culture. I am also a presenter at OU Classic's Day which happens on the OU Norman Campus every November.
