I love tutoring because it allows me to see others enjoy the successes they have earned. As a tutor, I do not have to grade learners on their abilities, but I do get to encourage them! I love tutoring because it allows me to see others enjoy the successes they have earned. As a tutor, I do not have to grade learners on their abilities, but I do get to encourage them! I feel that this tackles the barriers that often exist between teachers and students, so that the tutor (That's me!) can develop close relationships with their learners. Students then trust me, as their tutor, to critique their work, and help them make deeper improvements. An additional benefit of tutoring is that I learn how to write more effectively, how to communicate with pupils, and how to understand other perspectives.

My experience as a tutor has taken me from high school students, to college students, to ESL graduate students. As a high school student, I worked a lot in volunteer peer-tutoring. When I graduated and entered college, I actively pursued tutoring positions until I scored a very educational position as one of the tutors at the Writer's Block writing center. I learned many skills that improved my ability to tutor and to write. From there, I proceeded to tutor and edit for graduate students in the Oklahoma Christian University Masters Engineering Program, tutor in various subject with Wyzant for the past 3 years, and work as a full-time Project Manager for a University Marketing Department. I am now a freelance writer and linguistic analyst who still loves to tutor!

The core of my students in the graduate program were ESL students, and that provided a unique experience where I worked with students older than myself, and much more knowledgeable in their subject area, but struggling to master the English language in professional and academic writing. As I continued to work toward my degrees in English and Mathematics, my education provided me with more knowledge that I can share with other students. I feel confident in my ability to help advanced English students improve their writing, as well as my ability to assist ESL students develop their writing.

My experiences in Marketing saw me as a magazine editor, budget manager, website coder, and many other multi-disciplinary real-world applications of the disciplines I practice and tutor. As a freelance writer and linguist, I now get to hone my skills as a writer with other professional writer and bring that new knowledge into tutoring. I also bring my background in data collection and mathematics into play as a linguist.

As a college student at Oklahoma Christian University, I had plenty of tutoring experiences. My own high scores on the ACT speak for themselves. I also understand test-taking anxiety and can aid students who need to learn test-taking skills along with Math and English content. Each student learns a bit differently, so I usually try to assess the student's ability, learning style(s), and goals before I jump in. After I get a feel for the student's work, I help the student learn to learn. I know that sounds odd, but my main focus as a tutor is to give students the tools to figure out any tough math problems, stealthy spelling errors, best sentence structure, etc. I will not always be with the students I tutor, but the resources I aim to provide them can last.

I am more than happy to talk with you about your needs and goals as a student. Please contact me whenever it is convenient for you, and we will see how we can best aid you in your academic or personal educational pursuits!
