About Alise

I have had a love of teaching since I was in high school. I was able to only go to school for half a day my senior year, and went to work as a teacher aide for the second half of the day. My position was in a regional school for students with emotional disturbance and behavior handicaps. I was hooked!

I attended the University of Maine at Farmington and graduated in 1991 with a dual major in special education and general education grades K-8.

I have 7 years of experience teaching children with different abilities, including Autism, Dyslexia, ADD/ADHD and developmental disabilities. I currently teach a 4th grade classroom for OKCPS.

I have experience teaching children with many different abilities including autism, learning disabilities, down syndrome, developmental delays and dyslexia. I have also taught general education students in all elementary subjects. I teach reading using both phonics and sight word programs, vocabulary, spelling, elementary math, writing, science and social studies.
Over the years I have taught special education mostly, but this year I began teaching general education, 4th grade. While I miss my special education students I am enjoying teaching 4th grade immensely.

It really boils down to the fact that I love teaching children. I love seeing them succeed and I will do everything in my power to help my students be successful.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have 7 years of experience teaching students with ADD/ADHD. My undergraduate degree is in Special Education, Emotional Disturbance, and Behavior disorders. I also have taken several graduate level classes in Special Education.

Phonics

As a special education teacher, I taught students using a few different specific phonics-based programs. I have attended conferences in SPIRE and also have taken classes in how to teach phonics based reading. I used these programs extensively when teaching both special education and general education.
