Kansas State University, Independence Community College (Wildlife Biology)
I love tutoring and teaching because I love helping others improve their lives and reach their goals! I'm passionate about what I do and I do whatever is necessary to ensure the success of my students. I have tutored all types of students- traditional, adult, gifted, even disabled. I hold a Level 2 Tutoring certification from the College Reading and Learning Association- meaning that I am qualified to tutor students with certain learning disabilities. I always take the time to get to know my students so that I can tailor our lessons to their individual levels and methods of learning.
In addition to teaching and helping others, I also love music and animals, (my college major was Wildlife Biology) and I have 5 years of experience tutoring both privately and professionally. While in college I worked for TRIO/Educational Supportive Services- a college program that provides services (including free tutoring) to disabled, low-income, or first-generation students. Being a first-generation student myself, I really enjoyed using my skills to help others like me succeed in their studies. I specialize in tutoring Math (elementary math/arithmetic through College Algebra) & Science (Biology, Wildlife Biology, and College Chemistry.) I offer a free initial evaluation, during which time the student and I will meet each other, discuss what subjects they're needing help in, and talk about whether they could also benefit from homework help or test prep in those subjects. After this first meeting, I will draw up an individualized tutoring plan based on what the student needs and their unique learning styles. The end result should be an increase in scholastic performance...as well as the self-confidence and pride that comes with new found success!
I love math! Its so useful and anyone can be great at it! I always start by teaching the fundamentals- once a student understands the basics it's easy to move on to understanding the rest!
Science is my absolute favorite subject. I was a Wildlife and Conservation Biology major in college, and I use drawings & analogies to break down complex subject matter and make it easier to understand.
Contact me and I'll get back to you right away- you won't find a harder working, more patient, more dedicated tutor than me! Thanks for checking out my profile- I look forward to meeting you! I can be flexible with my hourly rate if payment is an issue. I offer discounts for military families & groups of 3 or more- & cancellation is free if done at least 6 hours before the session.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
