About Kate

My name is Kate, and I'm currently an honors student at the University of Oklahoma, attending on a national merit scholarship. My senior year of high school, I participated in a program that allowed me to be a teaching intern in a 5th grade language arts class 4 hours a week, and this past year I worked as an instructor in an after-school math tutoring facility working with students from 2nd to 12th grade. In middle school and high school, I taught kindergarten and 1st grade Sunday School classes at church once a month.

I love helping students learn, grow, and make connections. In the future, I hope to become a licensed clinical social worker and provide therapy services in a child advocacy center.

I have experience as a math tutor and understand how to convey Algebra 1 concepts to students.

English was my strongest subject on the SAT, and I can work with students to increase not only their English test scores, but also their confidence in using the language.

I love working with kids and I have experience with children ages 6 to 11 in an educational setting, working in a variety of subjects.

I love history and have a desire to help students appreciate history as well. I scored a 5 on the AP United States History exam.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

I have experience tutoring in Algebra 2 and college level algebra, explaining complex algebraic concepts in a way that students understand.

Elementary (K-6th)

I'm currently enrolled as an honors student at the University of Oklahoma, and I have 7 years of experience interacting with, caring for, and teaching elementary age children. I served as a teaching intern in a 5th grade language arts class for a year, working on skills such as grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. I've also worked with elementary students from 2nd to 6th grade in an after-school math tutoring facility, so I have experience conveying concepts from counting to pre-algebra and mathematical reasoning.

Elementary Math

I have experience in an after-school math tutoring facility, working with elementary students on skills from basic addition and subtraction to pre-algebra concepts.

Geometry

I excelled in an advanced geometry class in high school, and more recently, I've worked with geometry students in a tutoring setting on a regular basis to improve both their grades and their confidence in the subject.

Reading

I have experience with older elementary students in a classroom setting, working on language arts concepts including reading comprehension skills.

Writing

I scored a 5 on the AP English Language and Composition exam, I achieved a near-perfect SAT Writing score, and I've participated in a program that allowed me to serve as a teaching intern in a language arts class.
