I have been a student teacher for a 7th grade world history class. I have been a substitute teacher for the past year for grades pre-k-12th grade. I have also been a Tutor for a 7th grade ESL student. I am currently a long term certified substitute teacher for 5th Grade Social Studies.
I love tutoring because I really get to see how a student makes progress by giving that student that individual attention that is so sorely needed for so many students. A teacher doesn't always have the time to spend with each student. As a tutor, I can give a student the time that he or she needs.
I am qualified to be a tutor in the following areas: American History, Geography, Political Science, Social Studies, and World History, Spanish, ESL, and Reading.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a substitute teacher I have worked with many students who have ADD/ADHD. During that time, I have used many different teaching techniques to help these students learn including: repeating words and phrases, checking for understanding during reading time, brainstorming, using word searches, crossword puzzles, fill in the blank, listening to audio, playing math, reading, and writing games on the computer. As a person who has ADD, I can empathize with students who are afflicted with this problem and I feel I can provide a unique insight in order to help these student become successful.
I have been a substitute teacher in many different elementary schools in which I taught/tutored lessons in Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading, Writing and Spelling. I have also been a substitute teacher in Special Education classes in which students had ADD, ADHD, and other learning disabilities. Most recently I was a long term substitute teacher for 5th grade in which there were special education students who had ADD and ADHD.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in History. I have taken 24 undergraduate credits in Spanish. For one month, I studied Spanish in Mexico. And for seven months I worked at a call center as a bilingual customer service representative.
I have spent a lot of time at the elementary level as a Substitute Teacher tutoring children with reading and comprehension.
