Hi! My name is Courtney. I'm a certified teacher in both Oklahoma and Missouri. I currently teach third grade to some amazing students in Edmond, Oklahoma. When people ask me, "Do you like your job?" I always respond with, "I was 100% born to be a teacher." My passion for teaching is so much more than a job. I look forward to helping students gain new knowledge and help them make sense of what they're learning. For me, learning should be fun, engaging, and should build on what students already know. I can help them make sense of what they're learning and help them see how it relates to them. As cliché as it sounds, that moment when a student finally gets something is the best feeling in the world!
Math is my absolute favorite subject to teach because so many students struggle with it and it's very black and white. What I love about math is a subject where there is an absolute answer. There's not a lot of guesswork involved in math that other subjects can have. Math can be so fun and engaging, if taught correctly. My students always score well on the OCCT in math because I have so many strategies that I can teach them to help "make math make sense."
I love understanding new vocabulary. Helping students develop rich vocabularies is such a wonderful way of making them well-rounded human beings. I strongly believe that understanding how words go together will make a student excel in all subjects. I specifically teach "word identification skills" as a part of my everyday life in my own classroom and I can tell it makes a huge difference with my students. I'd love the opportunity to share that with students outside of my classroom as well!
I am certified in both Oklahoma and Missouri to teach elementary-aged and intermediate students. I am certified for grades 1-8 between the two states. I currently teach in a self-contained classroom, which means that I teach all subjects in the curriculum and I can easily tutor in multiple subjects.
I would absolutely love to talk with you prior to any tutoring sessions if you would like to get to know me first. I strongly believe that all students can learn if they have a great teacher and I'm willing to be that person in you or your child's life. Contact me so we can schedule our first lesson!! Hi! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
