Economics is the social science that deals with the allocation of scarce resources among an unlimited number of competing alternative uses. Economics is about choices and the impacts these choices have on others. It relates to every aspect of daily life, from the decisions individuals and families make to decisions made by businesses and governments. The economic thought process assists in making better choices and decisions.
By studying economics, you learn the methods and principles that people and institutions, both public and private, use to identify benefits and costs of alternative decisions. Students of economics are open to view global macroeconomic issues such as the impacts of changes in the international economic environment on nations’ growth and prosperity. Economics offers students the opportunity to learn to think critically to solve real world economic issues and to learn the skills required to develop innovative solutions to real world problems in their business and personal lives.
When I took my first real world job as an economic analyst at a bank, one of the bank’s vice presidents with over thirty years of experience in banking told me that I was very lucky to have my education and training in economics. He said it had taken him thirty years to learn the skills I had fresh out of school. He considered that an extreme head start in the banking and business world.
Everyone should have a basic understanding of economics because you may or may not use the information you learn in an algebra, history, literature, or other subjects in your life but you will use the information learned in economics every day of your life such as: 1) economics is essential to understand the world in which you live and work; 2) economics can equip you to compete successfully in the increasingly complex, knowledge-based, and interdependent twenty-first century global economy; and 3) economics gives you a better understanding of limitations, methods and objectives of economic policies of governments.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
