University of Oklahoma (Entrepreneurship)
Hi! I recently graduated from the University of Oklahoma with honors. I majored in entrepreneurship with minors in both Spanish and finance. My desire to tutor stems from a passion of giving others the opportunity to expand their horizons and build more confidence in their abilities.
Everyone has great potential, and I enjoy helping others realize it. Tutoring for me is a way to give back to the community and show my gratitude for the opportunities that led me to where I am today. I've had several informal tutoring experiences in the past, but more recently I took on a homework help tutoring program where I helped children with math and reading. I am also a member of Youth Lit, which is an organization whose mission is to eradicate illiteracy in our country.
Although I am competent in most subjects, I specialize in elementary and middle school math, Spanish, and reading. In terms of how I structure my lessons, I allow for flexibility as every student requires a unique style of tutoring to cater to their needs. On the other hand, I structure each lesson similarly through challenging yet fun activities and assignments. My goal is to help each student grow in knowledge and confidence.
I treat tutoring with a high level of professionalism and will not bill for a lesson if the student and/or parent is not completely satisfied. I seek to add value in every session I have, and therefore appreciate any feedback. I try to be flexible with my time in order to help as many students as possible. I am also flexible in the meeting location for lessons as well. With that said, I look forward to hearing from you and wish you the best in you endeavors! Hi! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have played basketball since age 5. I joined my first team soon after that and have played on various teams all the way through high school. Most notably, I was on the varsity basketball team starting sophomore year and won most improved player while serving as the starting point guard junior year. I have attended multiple camps as a player and a coach. I am confident I can give basketball lessons because of the camps that I have coached at as well as all the experience that I have accumulated over the years. I've been a guard, mainly point, my entire basketball career so I would be most adept at giving basketball lessons to guards.
Math was my favorite subject growing up. My friends used to call me the walking calculator. I loved solving word problems and performing mental math. It all just made sense to me, and I often helped my classmates with their math homework when they were struggling. I recently aided students with elementary math through a homework help program.
I am a self-taught guitar player. I first became interested in learning at age 11 and then taught myself from there. I learned by watching and listening to other guitar players as well as looking up tabs online. In middle and high school, I started a band and served as the lead singer/rhythm guitarist. I also have taken a few lessons myself just to touch up on other skills. Lastly, I've taken a music theory class and participated in concert and jazz band when I was in high school. I am confident I can teach others to play the guitar because I went through the process myself. I can impart the knowledge and skills I've gained throughout the years onto others. I believe I would be an ideal tutor for beginners.
I was a member of MathCounts in middle school and was in all of the advanced math courses, acing all of them. I often helped my classmates who were struggling and I continue to help others today.
I am passionate about reading because of the avenues that it opens and creates for people. It opens their imaginations and allows them to become more knowledgeable and wiser. Other than all the reading I've done for school and in my free time, I represent Youth Lit, which aids children in grades 1-5 in reading using a special phonetic code. I am able to utilize several different activities in order to discover which methods best help a student improve at reading.
I've always had a knack for Spanish, and I just love the language. I began learning it in elementary school and eventually pursued my minor at the University of Oklahoma. I've done multiple volunteer activities in a Spanish speaking setting, with the most memorable one being when I served as a translator for English-speaking doctors and Spanish-speaking patients. I've excelled in all the classes I've taken and received the Spanish Book Award as a senior in high school.
