University of Tulsa
I graduated from Broken Arrow High School and have attended the University of Tulsa. I plan to go back to college to get a degree in Math Education. I have been tutoring math and teaching flute lessons for the past 7 years.
My students work with me through a combination of their classroom homework, course materials and additional practice they may need. Working with each student I make sure that they understand and are able to work on their own with each type of problem. This allows students to feel better about classroom work and during quizzes and tests. I graduated from Broken Arrow High School and have attended the University of Tulsa. Alicia is quiet, kind and unassuming, and in no way intimidating. This is exactly what our daughter (an Honors Student) needed after having her confidence torn down by a particularly intimidating High School teacher. I could say much more on that subject, but I will resist that temptation. I waited until our daughter had spent a month (four 1 hr sessions) being tutored by Alicia and had taken a geometry test to write this review. So one month, 8 A's, and 1 B later, she was able to score just shy of a 100 on that test. Only thing I would do differently in the future is to do it sooner in the year. Money well spent!
My math skills were not too good before I hired Alicia. I bombed my first test and then hired her to tutor me through the semester. I got a 100 on my final and finished the class with a B. Alicia helped me achieve an excellent grade and made the class so much easier. I could not have done it without her.
Alicia is a wonderful tutor. She has helped my daughter very much. My daughter's recent algebra II test grades have improved dramatically. Alicia is patient and has a way of teaching that my daughter can understand and I would recommend Alicia to anyone who may need help with their math. Thank you very much.
Alicia is so helpful. I am older and she is patient and guides me on problems. I was getting frustrated with the Algebra problems and thinking there is no way I will ever understand, and she to look at the problems as if they are puzzles. They are still hard but looking at them in a different way keeps my mind from having that mental block. Alicia is awesome!
I loved the work that and patience that we received from Alicia when she was tutoring my son. Hope to have her again for my daughter.
Alicia only had to spend half of the allotted time with my daughter. Precise and calm. Will call her again in a heartbeat.
I decided to go back to school at age 44. The last time I had Algebra or even looked at an Algebra problem was when I was 14. 30 years is a long time. Alicia was very patient and somehow I managed to get through both Beginning and Intermediate Algebra with A's. She could tell when I didn't understand something and would come up with different ways of explaining, so that I eventually grasped the concept. I think the deer in the head-lights look was her cue. LOL She also was very understanding when she had to keep reminding me of stuff we've already went over before. Life's busy and she understood that Algebra wasn't the only thing I had going on. I plan on hiring her again in the fall to help me with College Algebra. If you're not a math person, like me, she's a great help.
Alicia has been working with my niece and her geometry grades have increased substantially and my niece is really understanding the homework and prepared for tests now. We have Alicia to thank. Alicia explains things very well and is so thorough. Added bonus is that she is a wonderful kind person as well. We highly recommend her!
Our son struggled with Algebra throughout middle school filtering to high school. A "D" was a welcoming sight. Since hiring Ms. Alicia, he has gone from a "F" to a "B" less than five weeks.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been tutoring math from Elementary Math to Algebra II for the past 6 1/2 years. During high school I took Calculus and at The University of Tulsa I continued classes in Calculus. Students work on classroom homework as well as additional material. I make sure that students not only understand but make sure they can complete problems by themselves.
I have been playing the flute for 13 years and have been teaching private lessons for 5 years. I earned a Music Scholarship from the University of Tulsa.
