About Jessica

I am new to the Bartlesville area and am excited to get to know new tutoring clients! I am fortunate to have had a great educational experience in my hometown of Kansas City. In high school, I took Advanced Placement classes in English from freshmen to senior year. I then went to college at the University of Kansas (rock chalk!). I have a Bachelors in Liberal Arts with a degree in English and a Business minor. I also took many years in Spanish--I can understand, but am definitely not fluent!

I spent the last three years of my career in the corporate world at a publishing company but recently moved and became a tutor in one of the public elementary schools to help with third, fourth and fifth grade Math and English.

I also have experience in early education and am very comfortable with all age groups. I am also interested in helping anybody wanting to learn adult literacy--It is never too late to learn!! I understand the struggle of learning something new and it not clicking right away so I just want to be there to help!

Degree in English. Tutor for third, fourth and fifth grade classes at a public elementary school. I also took advanced placement English classes in high school.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

The main qualification I have for tutoring English is my educational background. I have a Bachelors in Liberal Arts with a degree in English. The majority of my higher education was spent in specializing in this particular field.

Literature

I am confident I am qualified to tutor literature as it is one of the core subjects in the English program. Not only do I have the educational background, but I also love to read, analyze and discuss all literature. Although some pieces may be harder to understand, I enjoy the different interpretations each person can have while reading and understanding the piece.

Reading

I love reading!! I have always enjoyed the fact that reading is never limiting. No matter whether a person is reading for enjoyment or assigned, they could be reading different genres, authors, subjects. I want to help others learn to enjoy meeting new people and going to different worlds and times through the magic of reading.

Spelling

The experience I have in tutoring was emphasized on spelling and vocabulary in the elementary school system. I have spent time with one-on-one and small group settings that focused on spelling. I have found that the key to spelling is making it fun and entertaining due to the fact that most methods are so repetitive and lose the interest of younger students.

Vocabulary

In my experience, I have found that vocabulary is a subject that has been overlooked by both students and parents. I hope that as a tutor and I can help others understand the importance of vocabulary and the foundation it sets for many other subjects. I am excited to incorporate methods I have used to grow my own vocabulary skills and the methods I have learned along the way to find the perfect way to help others in their own journey.
