Youngstown State University (Early Childhood Edu.)
Hi everyone! My name is Austin, I'm currently enrolled in my last semester at Youngstown State University for Early Childhood Education. In May of 2016, I will graduate and be a certified elementary teacher for grades K-3. I was recently awarded a scholarship through my university and nominations from professors that deemed me an "excellent candidate" through my student teaching and preparatory field work. I'm currently student teaching at Harding Elementary in Youngstown, Ohio in a 3rd grade classroom.
I've wanted to be a teacher as long as I can remember thinking about life after high school. Originally, I planned to attend college to become a high school English teacher. After working in a program called Junior Achievement during my senior year of high that allowed me the opportunity to work with a 3rd grade classroom, I immediately went and change my major to Early Childhood Education. I love working with children and fostering their desire to learn. Seeing the look on a child's face after they understand a difficult concept is unlike any other feeling in the world! I look forward to working with your child and building a great relationship with both you and your child as we work towards helping them be the best student they can be.
Math has been something I feel that I teach very well. During my student teaching in Youngstown City Schools, I've taught math using the Bridges program. This program aligns with the common core standards and is comparable to many other math programs used in schools all over the area.
During my time at Youngstown State University, I was fortunate enough to participate in Project PASS within the Youngstown City Schools. This program had me working one-on-one with a 2nd or 3rd student in the areas of reading, comprehension, vocabulary, and written responses to help students prepare for both the 3rd grade reading guarantee and the AIR test.
Throughout my entire college career, I've worked with and planned lessons aligning with the common core state standards. Every lesson in both math and reading lines up with these standards and I'm very familiar with these standards and what students need to know in order to met them.
I'm always looking for new strategies to share with my 3rd grade class. Every week, we are practicing and learning new strategies to help us practice and remember our skills needed for our tests. I also take a lot of pride in my ability to find a strategy that works for each and every student. I'm aware that not every strategy works for every student, so it's very important to me that I continue practicing and learning strategies so that I have a wide range readily available to present to students.
I'm very personable and get along great with all students, I'm really just a big kid at heart! I look forward to working with all students and am very eager to help them become the best students they can be. Hi everyone! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
