I have two undergraduate degrees, one in Mathematics with a minor in Physics and the other in Electrical Engineering. I also have a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. I've worked as an engineer for 30 years, at Westinghouse as a test engineer on radar jamming systems. I also worked at Packard Electric/Delphi as an electromagnetic analysis engineer in Advanced Engineering. This required knowledge in differential equations, matrix theory, geometry, statistics, electromagnetics, materials, gases, computer programming and a knowledge of Excel, word processing and PowerPoint. I was award 11 patents and was inducted into Delphi Inventors Hall of Fame. Only 38 engineers have attend this honor in the entire history of Packard Electric/Delphi. I have tutored many engineering students both in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. I also tutored college students in pre-calculus and differential and integral Calculus. I've recently tutored high school students in Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry.

My approach to tutoring students is to observe them first attempting to solve problems and observing their difficulties. This gives me a starting point to bring them up to speed. I've learned that no one approach to tutoring will work on all students. The one thing I give students that an ordinary math teacher doesn't do is to show them how mathematics is used in the real world. Everyone knows that mathematics is used in Engineering and Physics but I show them how it is used in some of the computer games they play and a host of other disciplines. If applicable, I point out how the same equation is used differently by mathematicians, engineers and physicists. I believe that students learn better if they see things from another perspective.
