Stevens-Henager College (Online) (Graphic Design)
I have been involved the Creative Arts as long as I have been old enough to create. A student of Dance with the Canton Ballet, and from the on Judy Bourne. Art class was my favorite subject during my k-12, which lead me to pursue my degree in Graphic Design. I began teaching my son to be creative as soon as he was old enough to use a finger paint, and realized I had found my passion. I have volunteered much of my time in the past 6 years to underprivileged children providing them with a safe environment in which to explore their creative nature and the tools and ideas with which to grow it. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the smile on the face of a child who has never held a crayon and has just completed a drawing of their first circle (or spiral, or triangle or happy face!
I am patient and understanding. I believe the skill of literacy is one of the greatest gifts an individual can be given. My only rule is not to speak the phrase, "I can't" because I know that with a little hard work and a lot of patience, everyone can learn to read. When you can read, you can go anywhere and do anything.
I was blessed to have my son at an early age. I finished my 11th grade year online through a new program our school was offering. Unfortunately life called me to work and parent, so my 12th grade was spent doing just that. You are able to get your GED after your class graduates, and I fully believe it is so important to do so. I did exactly that in Oct. 2005. I went to the library, found the necessary materials, and enrolled to take the test (with some help from a few amazing mentors) Anyone can get their GED. Anyone can study, and Anyone can pass the test. It's about finding out where your strengths and weaknesses lie, and dedicating yourself to the task. Anyone of any age who would like a study guide and helpful tutor can find one in me.
I have enough experience in Photoshop and some in InDesign as well that I can help the new student. I did some freelance work in college, mostly for musicians in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area as well as for some Non-Profit start ups. My drawing skills tie into that as well, as Design is incredibly linear. I do draw on paper, anyone who needs some coaching in the area of creativity is welcome to any information I can provide. I have previously worked with children from the ages of 2 through 18, but anyone older is also welcome.
If you would like to further your education and believe that I am qualified to help you, please feel free to contact me through WyZant for more information. I am willing to work on a sliding scale provided that the need is definite and time appropriate. Thank you for your consideration and have a wonderful day. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
