I understand the importance of education and working hard to achieve good grades. I remember how much I had wanted to go to school as a little girl, but was not able to, until the age of 11. I spoke Creole and barely knew English, but I entered into the 5th grade in 1989. Oh, I was so happy and excited, because I was finally going to school! Looking back 24 years later, I have graduated from high school (1998); went to college (3 1/2 years) for Spanish and French; obtained my bachelor's in business administration (2004); and received a master's in education (2011). Wow! I could not have done any of that without the help of my wonderful classmates, incredible teachers (including my ESL and reading teachers in the 5th and 6th grade), support from my family and friends, confidence in myself, and most of all, I thank God for making all of that possible.
There are two career fields I wanted to go into when I was growing up--a pediatrician or a teacher, but more and more, I wanted to become a teacher, although, I am not quite there yet. I have always loved and enjoy working with children and students of all ages, and I think this is probably due to my own personal experiences with teachers throughout my educational career and the difference they have made in my life. School wasn't always easy for me and was often a challenge, which is why I can relate to any of you students who are experiencing that and want to help you get through those challenges through my tutoring sessions.
In my tutoring sessions, you can expect for me to be patient, understanding, and sincere to your needs. First, I will listen as you explain the problems you are experiencing in the particular subject area, then I will provide you with clear explanations and give you examples to help you solve those problems. I will proofread and check your work with you and help you correct any mistakes. I will also help you prepare for any tests and quizzes you may have. How does all that sound to you? Do you have any questions? You don't have to be shy or embarrassed, or afraid. We learn by asking questions. So please, let me know. I look forward to working with you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
