About Lisa

I have been a teacher for 12 years. I first began teaching 2nd grade for four years, I then advanced to a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, & Special Education licensure. I became an Intervention Specialist, and have taught Special Education since then. I have been involved in every grade level from K-8 in that time. I then returned to Walsh University where I obtained my Reading Endorsement, (K-12)

During my teaching career, I have always been involved in tutoring and test preparation groups. I enjoy small group and one on one tutoring and intervention. One of the most rewarding aspects of tutoring is giving a child confidence. Improved grades are of course important, but to be able to take the stress out of learning in a non-threatening environment is essential. By tutoring, classroom concepts can be reinforced, as well as preparing students for future instruction. This will help to increase their confidence and reduce stress. I also believe in providing a hands on, fun approach to learning to keep them engaged.
So many students are lacking basic skills and concepts. With a one on one opportunity such as tutoring, these skills are able to be addressed, also increasing classroom success.

I have been an Intervention Specialist since 2009, and have had more students than I can count who were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. I myself have ADD, and can relate to a child's limits and stressses. I am flexible, and work hard to keep lessons fun, interesting, and provide movement opportunities whenever possible. I know that different students require different interventions in order to be successful.

If you want a fun, engaging way to learn, please contact me. I would love the opportunity to work with students and help them to be more confident and successful.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
