My name is Jessica. I have been tutoring for over 10 years. I started out tutoring younger students while in high school. I have had the pleasure of working with many Kindergarten through third grade students on many occasions. We worked on general reading, writing and mathematics skills. I worked with one specific student while she moved from fifth grade through eighth grade. We worked on her reading comprehension and paragraph organization to help her get ready for the Ohio Achievement Assessments. We also worked on general study skill ideas. I have not just worked with school age children but adults as well. One man was having trouble adjusting to college away from home. We worked on study skill tips and tricks. He, also, brought specific assignments he wanted extra help completing.
In addition, I do have my Ohio Teacher License. I graduated from Kent State University in 2007 with my Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education. Upon graduation, I moved to Baltimore, Maryland where I taught Pre-Kindergarten for two years. Due to homesickness, I moved back home. I started as a substitute teacher in the fall of 2009 while finishing my Master's in Computer Education. From the spring of 2010 until the end of the school year in 2013, I worked for Summit Academy School for Alternative Learners: Canton Elementary as the General Education teacher in the K-1 room. Since then I have been working as private tutor in the afternoons/ evenings and summers and substitute teacher during the school day. My name is Jessica. I have been tutoring for over 10 years. Jessica is always patient with us. We appreciate her helping us out and having a positive attitude with all our chaos.
This was our first session. Very nice. On time. Good insight. She made us feel at ease and gave great feedback.
Jessica is so helpful in every way. She is there because she loves to see the children grow. Can't thank her enough.
My daughter was spending part of her summer with her grandmother in Ohio and although I wanted her to have a fun and carefree summer, I did not want her to forget all the hard work she had accomplished, with the help of her Wyzant tutor, during the school year. WyzAnt had already proven to be wonderful resource so it only made sense to turn to it again. Jessica was a wonderful find. She was punctual, kind, patient, supportive and very thorough in her assessments. My daughter really enjoyed her and was sad that their time together had come to an end. I will surely use Jessica again!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked for a school specializing in teaching students who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD or on the Autism Spectrum for 3 years. I have had the pleasure of planning and implementing a variety of behavior plans to help every child succeed. I have also tutored students who struggle with ADD/ ADHD.
I have worked for a school specializing in teaching students who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD or on the Autism Spectrum for 3 years. I have had the pleasure of planning and implementing a variety of behavior plans to help every child succeed. Several of these plans include picture schedules to help with transition and creating sensory boxes to help the student focus.
I got my degree from Kent State University in Pre-K through 3rd grade. I have aquired over 1000 hours of teaching Pre-K through 3rd grade classrooms. I have tutored a student for several summers as she has worked her way up to 7th grade in 2009.
I have been using a computer since I was 8 years old. I am currently seeking my Master's in Computer Education from the Univerity of Phoenix. While I was teaching in Baltimore I was on the technology committee. This entitled me to extra trainings with SMART boards and computer programs to help the other teachers.
While working on my Bachelor's Degree through Kent State University we were required to attend several classes on Phonics and how to use phonics in the classroom. These classes were supplemented with time in classrooms working with small groups to try the methods we learned.
I have also taught two years in Baltimore City Public Schools as a Pre-K teacher. The Pre-K programs used focused on phonics as the foundation of reading.
There are many different styles to help students study. Knowing many different methods help students realize the best methods for themselves. One English class I attended focused on how to take notes and diffent study skills. I have also presented these techniques to other students through tutoring sessions.
