In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a BA in Bible from Southeastern Bible College in Lakeland, FL, now Southeastern University. I have taught several classes in church and study the Bible regularly.
I taught a college prep class called AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) that prepared students for college for Seven years in high school. A large component of this course was career research and determination. I showed students take pertinent career inventories and explore career fields. We did personality and ability assessments as well. In college, I taught a course called College Success Skills, in which I essentially did the same as in high school but on the college level.
I have a Master's in Teaching English and have been an Adjunct instructor for 12 years on the community college level.
I have taught GED Prep courses several times. My strongest areas are Social Studies and English. I am fair in science. Math is my weakest subject.
