About Sue Anne

My love of teaching has kept me in the education field. I have been a High School and Elementary Teacher, GED Teacher, and ESL Teacher throughout my 25 years of participating in the education field. My students have frequently thanked me for my ability to both teach and communicate in such a way they could comprehend the subject being taught. I believe facts must be taught in the manner in which students can comprehend them. I always ask my students after teaching a lesson, if they understood what I had presented to them. If a student doesn't comprehend a concept, I always present the idea in another manner in which the information can be clearly understood. This is my idea of what the responsibility of a teacher is obligated to do. I especially enjoy tutoring because it gives the student a one-on-one opportunity of instruction and problems with understanding or comprehension of the subject taught with the opportunity to address issues or problems connected to the subject immediately rather than sitting in a crowded classroom waiting for his/her chance to address a learning or comprehension problem .

I have taught GED classes for approximately 12 years. While teaching GED classes in the Cleveland Municipal School District, 80% of my students received their GED Certificate.

I have an interest in teaching international students. After graduation from high school lived and traveled in Europe. I lived in London, Rome Italy, Lucerne Switzerland, Vienna, Austria, Brussels Belgium, Paris, France and Frankfort, Germany. I have taught ESL classes while working for Cleveland Municipal Schools and Toledo Municipal Schools, and was a Group Conversation Tutor at the American Language Institute at The University of Toledo. I specialized in TOEFL preparation in which 75% of my students passes the TOEFL exam instruction, taught grammar and vocabulary in which I have an undergraduate degree in Communication and a Minor in English.

I have an undergraduate Minor in English. My Ohio teaching certificate area of teaching is Language Arts. I enjoy teaching spelling with all of the concepts connected to it. I believe a student's ability to master correct spelling is paramount in clear written communication and the ability to read successfully. My method of spelling instruction is to begin with where the student is in his/her ability to spell correctly. Progress in spelling can only be made when the students is assessed and then instruction is geared to the specific problem for success. No student learns how to effectively spell if a plan of action is not developed. I enjoy watching the student progress in spelling activities especially when the smile come on his/her face as if a light bulb has just gone off!

I hold myself to high standards so I expect the same from my students. I am flexible with my tutoring hours but ask for a 24 hour cancellation and make-up classes are always available. Tutoring can be conducted in your place of residence or a local library. I believe a place of silence is the best for learning and students learn better where noise and confusion isn't present. Every tutored student deserves the best instruction possible because when a subject is mastered, self-confidence and self-esteem becomes part of the student's well-being.
