My name is Donna. I have taught in a classroom for twenty-nine years. Of those years, fifteen have been at the high school level and fourteen have been at the junior high school level. I teach Math skills to students seeking a G.E.D. I also do private tutoring.
I have a Math degree from the University of Michigan and a Special Education degree (in the area of Learning Disabilities) from Eastern Michigan University. I really enjoy being a teacher and particularly enjoy teaching Math.
I find Math fun and always try to make it enjoyable for my students.
Often students have difficulty in Math relating back to their struggles with Math in their early years in school. I find that snag in their understanding, clear it up, and proceed from there. I figure out the learning style of each student I am teaching. Then, I use that information to help me teach them better.
Since I have taught Math in grades seven through twelve, I am able to teach many levels of Math. My favorite of all areas of Math is Geometry though I enjoy teaching all levels of Algebra – from Pre Algebra through Algebra 2 and Trig.
While teaching in high school, I have been head of the Math Department. I have also been a coach to “Mathletes” involved in the nationally recognized MATHCOUNTS competitions. Locally, I have had my students involved in the Greater Toledo Competition of Teachers of Mathematics. I have led our school-wide competitions for many years and have proctored and graded papers at the local finals level of competition.

Donna helped explain a few Math concepts that I was having a hard time understanding. After this first lesson, I feel more confident with solving many forms of equations. Everything was explained clearly and she even gave me different ways to solve a problem which was helpful.
Donna has been tutoring our daughter for a couple of years now in Geometry and Algebra II. She has done a fantastic job and our daughter's grades show it. We highly recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am presently tutoring high school Math, working with the Owens Community College UPWARD BOUND Program. In this position I tutor all high school subject areas of Math, as well as ACT and OGT preparation.
I have taught high school Math for 15 years, and presently tutor at local high schools. I have 6 years experience tutoring specifically to the G.E.D. Math test.
Geometry is my FAVORITE field of math! I taught it at both the High School & Junior High levels. I believe once you see the "big picture", Geometry becomes easier to do.
I have taught Pre-Algebra at both the high school and middle school levels.
