I have been a teacher/tutor/role model for as long as I can remember. As the oldest of three boys in a single parent family, I have been a father figure, friend, and teacher for all my life. Even now, my brothers come to me to teach them how to do work on their cars, fix their appliances and gadgets, and help with their academics. I have spent many years working at the YMCA as a camp counselor, which helped fortify my abilities and strategies used in progressively interacting with children. I am a recent graduate of the University of Akron, majoring in Middle Level Education, Science and Language Arts concentration areas. As humbly as possible, I am very proud of my 3.8 cumulative GPA. Combining these experiences, my background encompasses both formal and informal learning environments, as well as social and academic tutoring. I love tutoring because I can devote all my attention to the task at hand without the normal classroom distractions; no peers goofing around, no bells, etc. Learning is about making a personal connection to the information, and though tutoring, these connections come naturally as the tutor and student work together to find what the student already knows in relation to the new information. My personal approach to teaching revolves around leveling with the student as a human being, and showing them that their ideas are valuable. Growing off the student's understanding that they are respected and important, I can start to show them the relationship between what they already know and the new information, making a deliberate effort to bridge the two ideas. I know that learning is about purposefully building on the student's pre-existing schema while intentionally guiding them to make their discoveries and connections.

I have tutored several students, both in and out of school settings, ages ranging from 7 to 18, mostly for periods longer than four weeks. Most recently, I have tutored a 10 year old girl with ADHD for seven months in all subject areas. Before that, I tutored two 18 year old ESL

Knowledgeable, and creative in his tutoring approach.

Ed is first doing an evaluation to collect data in order to develop a specific plan for tutoring my son. My son has met with Ed only once, however a positive relationship was developed. We look forward to continuing to work with Ed.

Engaging and knowledgable

Ed has lots of well organized material. He worked very well with my two boys who are in 5th and 3rd grades. Ed got both boys to give their best effort to the writing tasks at hand and they enjoyed it as well! We look forward to working with Ed further.
