About Judith

After completing a Ph.D. in mathematics, I began a 30-year teaching career at the university level. During this time, I taught courses at all levels of the undergraduate and graduate program. I especially enjoyed teaching calculus and discrete mathematics, along with various upper level courses in analysis.
I also have an interest in encouraging women in the sciences and mathematics. To this end I started the Women in Mathematics program, whose goal was to provide a strong network of support for women students in the sciences.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Discrete Math

I taught discrete mathematics at the university level for several years. The discrete math courses were at two different levels. The introductory course was taken by students who went on to work in computer science or who became math teachers. The higher level class was for mathematics majors.
Some of the topics covered were set theory, counting techniques, relations, functions, logic and proofs. Over the years, I've worked on good ways to present the logical material in discrete math and to find appropriate examples to explain the area.

Very knowledgeable and interested in helping.

My daughter enjoyed her first lesson and felt she understood the material they worked on in a way she had not from her classwork. She's looking forward to working with her again. Thank you Judy.
