Hi, I’m Serra! I'm a recent graduate of Rice University with degrees in Psychology and Health Sciences. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had a passion for learning; whether it was STEM subjects, humanities, or music, I’ve always been devoted to and interested in discovering as much as I could about the world around me! I would love to share with others my appreciation for learning and help students reach their maximum potential.
I’ve been a tutor for over 30 middle and high school students in the past six years, specializing in subjects ranging from Chemistry and Algebra to English and writing! Recently, however, I’ve narrowed down my focus to Math/Sciences and standardized testing tutoring.
I enjoy teaching because I love watching the satisfaction on my students’ faces as they grasp new concepts and become more confident in these subjects. Seeing them more enthusiastic about learning and seeing an increase in their performance is such a rewarding experience and I hope to be able to share this with even more students!
Having completed math courses up to advanced level calculus and differential equations, I consider math to be one of my stronger subjects. I’ve tutored Algebra for the past 5 years and helped drastically raise my students grades. I’ve also been an ACT tutor for the last 4 years after receiving a perfect score on all areas of the standardized test. I can teach students effective SAT/ACT tips, shortcuts, and strategies in order to minimize time while increasing testing efficiency.
Science is one of my favorite subjects and as a pre-medical student, I am really interested in tutoring in this field! Though, the Science portion of the ACT is more based on critical thinking and data interpretation and does not require substantial science knowledge. I would teach students how to understand both quantitative and qualitative data, how to pace themselves (this is the section of the ACT where the most students encounter trouble with time and completion) and how to draw conclusions from reading passages.
