About Allison

As an Early Childhood Education major at Ohio University Southern, I am currently completing my student teaching in a second grade classroom. Throughout my college experience, I have visited and taught in 7 different schools ranging from pre-k to 5th grade, including a special education classroom. I have worked with individual students, small groups of 3-5, and whole-class (around 20 students). I have also volunteered at programs such as Winshape at Bridges church as well as The Academy of Excellence at Ohio University Southern, and I was a high school peer tutor for 2 years.

I began tutoring and I chose to major in education because I feel that education is the foundation for a sturdy life. With a love of learning and a craving for knowledge, children will have the opportunity to pursue anything and everything they want in life. They just need someone who will work with them and ignite this passion within them.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Handwriting

As an early childhood education major, I have student taught and had clinicals in various elementary classrooms ranging from pre-k to 2nd grade. I have also been in reading recovery rooms fro students between the age of 5 and 10. In these placements, I have worked with students on handwriting skills and the correct way to write their letters and numbers. Currently, I am student teaching and we work from a handwriting booklet every day for about 45 minutes. I have led the class in this lesson and I have helped individual students to form their letters correctly.
