About Eileen

My experience has provided me with the opportunity to teach students from kindergarten through high school. I am a certified, special education teacher. I have used the Wilson Reading Program, and LLI Program, Everyday Math and VMath programs. I enjoy working with students, individually or in a small group, because this gives me the opportunity to know their strengths and the areas to improve. My education and experience has allowed me to utilize many different strategies to help students vizualize, learn and retain information needed for success in school. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have taught students with ADD for over ten years and have taken a number of workshops regarding the ADD student and executive functioning. My degree in special education has provided me with the experience of teaching students who have add, autism, dyslexia and other learning disabilities.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have a caseload of 16 students with 4 of those students on the Autism spectrum. I have taken 3 workshops on Autism, Assessments for Autism, and Inclusion with students on the Autistic Spectrum.

Common Core

I have been an intervention specialist for over fifteen years. During that time I have taught students from first through sixth grades in various subjects. Since I am the teacher of record for a large percentage of my caseload, all instruction must meet the Common Core standards. I have also served on our school committee to review and revise lesson plans from various grades to determine if they meet the Common Core standards. I am highly qualified in ELA and in math.

Dyslexia

I have taken the Wilson Reading Fundamentals Program and am currently using the Wilson and Fundamentals programs.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught students from first through sixth grades. As an intervention specialist, I have co-taught in a number of classrooms and have been teacher of record for students in second and third grades. I have taught math using various programs, such as the Everyday Math Program, I am highly qualified in math.

Phonics

I have taught phonics for over 8 years. I use the Wilson Reading Program, the Fundamentals Program, LLI and the Phonics Dance.

Special Needs

I have a degree in special education and feel very qualified to teach students with different learning abilities.

Study Skills

I am an expert on teaching students good study habits. I teach them how to take notes, to study from notes and text, to organize planners, and use context clues and look-backs to prepare for standardized testing.

My position as an intervention specialist includes providing my students with strategies to use when preparing for tests.
