Kent State University (HS English Education)
Hello there! My name is Richard, but my friends call me Dack, which you are welcome to as well! I'm currently attending Kent State University working towards my Bachelor's of Education for English, grades 7-12. I'm very excited about it and absolutely love my coursework, which currently has me at two high schools in the area weekly to gain field experience. Last semester, I had the privilege of working for Kent State's Career Service Center, where I was responsible for helping students perfect their resumes, cover letters, and interview skills. This experience entailed everything from helping new freshmen who had never made a resume before to assisting graduate students prepare to apply to schools abroad. The success rate for students who came into our office was overwhelmingly higher than their previous efforts and I'm glad to have been a part of them.
Prior to my experiences at Kent State, I worked abroad in the UK in various faith-based youth programs, as well as taught a short music recording course to primary-aged students all over Scotland. I have always had a love for teaching, and I hope to be part of your learning journey too!
Throughout my time as a student from primary school to present, I have been passionate about literature and writing, and have recently been in the process of publishing an academic paper, as well as a few examples of my creative writing. Throughout my years working in youth groups, I have functioned in unofficial capacities, organizing a "homework group", which entailed reviewing the coursework of students in the group across multiple subjects. In particular, I spent a lot of time proofreading the formal writings of my senior students. Having performed well in most subject areas I've studied and given my passion for teaching others, I'm confident that I can be a part of your learning journey!
If you have any questions or would like to know anything else about my background, feel free to contact me! My schedule is flexible and I'm eager to help you get more out of your schooling experiences! I'm easy to talk to and happy to make whatever arrangements you need to. Happy learning! Hello there! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In the realm of Bible Study, my only formal education was a youthwork course taken in England, which included surveys of the Old and New Testaments. Informally, I have been leading various Bible study groups since 2006, which has also included some one-on-one tutoring of Biblical History and concepts common in Christian Culture.
I received top marks in advanced writing courses, and worked as a resume and cover letter tutor at Kent State's Career Services Center.
