The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH (PhD)
I have a PhD in French from The Ohio State University. Prior to Ohio State, I received an MA in French from Bowling Green State University as well as a BA in French and a BBA in Marketing from Eastern Michigan University. I have been teaching a variety of French language, literature, and history courses at the university level for the past four years.
In my classroom I use the communicative teaching method, which emphasizes interaction as the means of instruction. Students are taught both French vocabulary and grammar in French by interacting with myself and their peers. Since oral communication is essential to the communicative method, I try to promote a fun and relaxed atmosphere in order to allow my students to enjoy and feel at ease with the language learning process. In addition, I use a variety of authentic materials in my lessons in order to impart my passion of French language and culture to my students.
In addition to working with college level students I also have experience tutoring high school and middle school students. I would be happy to develop a tutoring program to meet your needs whether you are a beginner, would like conversation practice, are traveling to France, or are an advanced learner. I am look forward to working with you! Bonjour!

Ashley is very organized, cheerful and easy to talk with. We hired Ashley to tutor our son in first year French. Ashley came prepared with lessons and a strategy to work along with the school work to improve my son's understanding of French.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
