About Charles

Bio

If your child -wants- to learn, I can teach them what they need. I know mathematics inside and out and am good at what I do. I provide real-world examples and relate the subject matter to you [or your student's interests]. COVID made teaching hazardous, but I can still be a force for change and development through these virtual channels. Given the opportunity, I will share my knowledge with you and your family as well. Thank you for viewing my profile.

— Background —
• Elementary: taught myself Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry before high school
• High School: 5s on AP Calculus BC and AP Chemistry in my junior year and on AP Physics my senior year; scored a 760 on SAT Math and a 34 on ACT Math
• College: engineering courseload with math beyond Differential Equations
• Post-Graduate: earned certification to teach IT courses to high school students
• Professional: left engineering and taught high school math

— Highlights —
• Tutored one of my students privately who wanted to go beyond their school resources. I had taught them Geometry and Trigonometry through their academic transcript, but they wanted to learn PreCalculus before transferring to a US Top 100 high school. Taught the student from March to July. They were admitted to Walnut Hills High School [Cincinnati, OH] for their senior year and completed Calculus BC was a 3.4 GPA.
• Took a freshman class which was not taught Algebra [public school miseducation] and had them performing 14% better than district average on their standardized tests

I teach the math behind the math. Students experiencing difficulty with math do not understand what to do next or why they need to do what they need to do next. I will teach the reasoning and all of the ways the problem can confuse you. Then, I will simplify the process and help develop student awareness so they can navigate math efficiently and on their own.

I have been shooting professionally since 2014. I have upgraded my Gear Bag with: Sony a7RIII, Sigma Sport 70-200mm, Sigma Art 85mm, Flashpoint 600Pro TTL, and the Sekonic L-478D LiteMaster Light Meter for my major tools. I also have an assortment of softboxes, modifiers, lights, stands, and weird things to make a shoot more fluid. My Workflow consists of Capture One for file handling and image processing while Photoshop handles major changes requiring g layers and more extensive effects not readily available in Capture One. My Credits include work with various designers and artists in the SW and Central Ohio areas, the All-Star Fashion Experience [Columbus, OH; 2022], The Cave Fashion Show [Columbus, OH; 2022] and the Columbus Fashion Show [Columbus, OH; 2021] with the Columbus Fashion Council. Photography is an extremely subjective, luxury artform. I can introduce you to your camera as well as fundamentals of photography, but after that, you must spread your wings and capture the world through your vantage point and the dizzying array of colors and perspectives associated with it...

• Completed Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Michigan • Coursework included Circuits, Electromagnetism, Signals & Systems, Semiconductor Devices, Object-Oriented Programming, Optics, MEMS, and more • From the ages of 18-22, none of the coursework will make total sense unless you are remarkable. You won't know *why* you're doing what you're doing unless you're asking the right questions. I can help you find the questions to lead you through one of the most grueling majors in college.

Solid!

I went into this situation knowing what I expected but did not know how to bring the vision to existence. Charles was very thoughtful and detailed oriented in helping bring the vision to pass. He asked the right questions, listened to my input and actively continue to work as we revised together. I was very happy with our final outcome. Thank you Charles!
