About Jenna

While I was in college at Wittenberg University, I was a Supplemental Instruction Leader for two medieval history classes. For this position, I met with the professor to go over materials. I also completed training, which included learning different teaching methods and interactive learning strategies to encourage involvement, comprehension, and synthesis of subject content. I found a love for teaching in this job. I always enjoyed when students came to me with questions about the lessons.

The most rewarding part of tutoring these students was when it all "clicked" for them. Outside of college, I taught a lesson on French culture and fashion after returning from a study abroad trip to Paris. I taught this lesson at a summer camp for sixth through eight graders. Teaching college students versus teaching middle school students was very different. Most of the college students were able to grasp upper level materials and knew what questions to ask, while most of the middle school students had difficulty putting into words what they were having difficulties understanding.

From these experiences, I discovered a love for learning and knowledge. Having the ability to pass on knowledge and help another understand is one of the most gratifying feelings. I enjoy passing on the knowledge I have to others. I especially love helping others understand history and to learn French. I grew up speaking French, so I know the benefits of learning a second language. I would love to help students to grow their minds and experiences through learning.

Being a history major in college, I gained experience proofreading many papers, both my own and those of my peers. I attended a liberal arts college so I was required to take classes from all departments. I took many English courses, which greatly improved my writing. I also took language courses for eight years (high school and college) and therefore have a good understanding of grammar.

I was a Supplemental Instruction Leader for history classes in college. I also have my B.A. in History with a minor in Pre-Modern and Ancient World Studies, and am currently working in a living history museum.

I would love to help you understand the subjects with which you have trouble. I very much enjoy finding fun ways to learn! Please feel free to contact me to learn more about what I can do for you and to schedule lessons!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Archaeology

I spent 4 weeks on an archaeological dig in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium with Eastern Illinois University where we excavated a 10th century castle. On this dig, we worked with the students of Université Catholique de Louvain and the head of archaeology for Belgium. Additionally took a class while in college at Wittenberg University from one of my professors who is an archaeologist. I also have my B.A. in History with a minor in Pre-Modern and Ancient World Studies, and am currently working in a living history museum.

Theatre

I have participated in theatre since I graduated from eight grade (2007). I obtained a theatre scholarship for college. In college I also attempted to minor in technical theatre, but was not able to complete the minor due to one class being cancelled. I worked on theatre productions all through high school and college, doing hair and make up, costume, set construction, running crew, and acting.
