I taught in an elementary school for 26 years where I taught 2nd grade, 3rd grade and Title 1 reading and math. I am patient, positive and fun. I love using unique ways of teaching to help my students really learn and remember skills they will need throughout their lives. I think tutoring is an amazing, successful way for children to learn because I can focus all my attention on just one child's needs.
I am an energetic teacher specializing in reading strategies, as well as special needs instruction. I am a highly innovative and resourceful education professional who quickly identifies and resolves challenging classroom situations. In that I am a caring, patient teacher, I am able to demonstrate skill in strategic classroom management and effective discipline. I am also an enthusiastic classroom teacher with a knack for making learning exciting, motivating and enjoyable and throughout my teaching career have been motivated by my love for the children whom I teach, as well as my belief and faith that all children can be successful learners.

I have had extensive training in multiple phonics programs including Road To Reading and Phonics First and have had years of experience using these programs in my Elementary and Title One Reading classrooms.
I LOVE teaching and working with children and animals too! I Have fun coming up with creative, high energy ways to learn and practice skills so they are easier to remember and no matter how hard something may seem. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I am certified to work with students in grades K-8. I have 26 years of experience in both elementary classrooms and Title 1 small groups for reading and math support.
During years in which I taught second and third grades I worked with children ages 8-10. I provided a variety of tactile modes for students strengthen fine motor skills necessary for legible handwriting ranging from shaving cream to play dough which enhanced students' writing skills. I taught both Zaner-Bloser and D'Nelian forms of print and cursive.
Throughout my 26 years of working with elementary school children I have had the opportunity to receive experience and extensive training in multiple phonics based programs. Beginning with basic Modern Curriculum Press drill and practice pages, I later became certified in both the Road to Reading and Phonics First programs. I taught Title 1 Reading for 20 years and have great opportunity to apply the skills developed by these programs, as well as perfect and add my own unique, successful methods of instruction.
I have a BA in Elementary Education grades K-8 and 20 years experience as a Title 1 Reading instructor. I'm also trained in Road to Reading and Phonics First methods of reading instruction.
