Masters in Special Education (Enrolled)
Hey parents, is that report card not so great? Well, I may be able to help you and your child get back on track and maintain what they've already learned and get a head-start on the things to come.
I love to teach reading and phonics. Spelling was my favorite subject in school and so was language arts. I was also a great reader and was always in "first reading group".
I'll be honest, my math was not so great however being a teacher of special needs students I have learned how to break down material to make it more accessible to the students.
I have taught in the Toledo public schools as well as several charter schools as both an teacher's assistant and substitute teacher. I enjoy working in small groups also and making learning fun, and hands-on. Let's get creative spelling words and working out phonetic fundamentals with Playdough or shaving cream. I am a tactile learner myself and I need to manipulate things.
How about in math using play money to compute figures and making a pretend store? I have all of these ideas from my work with exceptional learners who get bored with just a paper and pencil. That's boring.
Again, if you are looking for an energetic teacher then give me a call so we get to work! I am married with two children of my own, ages eight and four. Also, I don't have a photo as of yet but if you need one I can get that to you, a background check can also be provided. I look forward to hearing from you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a substitute teaching license to teach for Toledo Public schools. I am currently working towards my masters to teach students with mild to moderate learning disabilities. In the past I've worked as a teacher's assistant working in small groups teaching remedial skills.
I taught direct instruction and was trained to properly teach at a local charter school in Toledo grades 3-7. Direct Instruction is a remedial reading program for at-risk students who lack the phonics background and has a very scripted and tailored program to target basic phonics skills. I also taught in after school programs targeting reading and phonetic concentration for grades 1-2. I enjoy these areas tremendously so please consider adding phonics in my profile. Also, I have course work that I took for licensure in special education pertaining to phonics skills.
In the future I plan to be an intervention specialist, with a licensure K-12 mild to moderate needs I enjoy this population the best. Since this is where my interests lies I would love to tutor special needs clients who may be on an IEP in grades K-5 grades. I enjoy working with remedial students and taking my time to teach skills they have on not mastered yet. I don't mind spending extra time on skill since that's what special educators do.
