About Joshua

I strive to continually learn in my life, both through amazing and engaging experiences and through more classical and academic avenues. I have honed my skills and knowledge in the scientific realm, but pride myself as being a well-rounded and informed citizen, knowledgable in a multitude of subjects and their associated interconnectedness. I have been a professional who has worked as a middle and high school instructor, as well as had a successful career in the scientific, ecological and animal behavioral arenas. I have tutored dozens of undergraduate and graduate students in various disciplines as well as adult continuing education.

Having been a high profile curator at various Zoos has afforded me the enriching experiences to: manage hundreds of rare and endangered animal species and hundreds of employees, engage in conservation initiatives both domestic and abroad, conduct research and the subsequent applications, travel abroad, and engage and teach numerous learners of all ages in a multitude of geographic and socio-economic locations. I value highly integrity, fairness, mutual respect, patience, success, and enjoying whatever you do. I recognize that each situation and individual is unique and relish being adaptable to fit that situation to achieve the highest improvement. If you or your learner has an open mind and is willing to try - there will be success.

I have taught various science subjects at both the junior high and high school levels, as well as tutored and mentored numerous undergraduate and graduate students. A decade and a half of working at prestigious zoological institutions have afforded and helped me home my expertise. I am a life-long learning and strive to be an informed well-rounded individual. This coupled with the knowledge and experience from my academic schooling and degrees makes me a very adaptable and engaging tutor.

I look forward to how I can use my skills, knowledge and experience to help in working to achieve you or your student's goals. Learning should not be a chore; let's work together to make those improvements we want to achieve. Please contact me and let's see how we can do this together.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Science

I have spent numerous years teaching and tutoring students in all aspects of science. My entire professional career has been in the field of science and I am very versed to give real world examples to help your student attain the knowledge they are looking for.

Basketball

I have played basketball through grade school, middle and high school. I also played varsity college basketball during my undergrad schooling. And have played numerous intramural and summer leagues since then, as both a player and coach.

Fitness

I have been a varsity athlete at both high school and college. Since then staying physically fit have been a key component of my life - from continued sports like basketball, soccer, softball to yoga, cardio and weightlifting. Pretty much all activities we do as a family involve being active and fit - from hiking, to trail running, to mountain biking and road cycling.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have utilized PPT for a decade in preparing presentations, online classes, and professional development. It is a fun medium to explore and can be utilized for a myriad of applications.

Track & Field

I ran track and field at both junior high and high school. I also ran cross country. I have also been an assistant coach for track and field.

Zoology

My undergraduate Biology degree had a focus of macro-vertebrates; my first Master's degree is in Environmental Science with dual concentrations of Applied Ecology and Conservation; and my second Master's degree is in Zoo & Aquarium Leadership with dual concentrations in Administration and Collections Management. I have been a curatorial manager at accredited Zoological Institutions for over a decade and have managed hundred of species of rare and endangered animals. I have taught various science subjects at middle and high school, and have tutored and mentored dozens of undergrad and graduate students.
