About Christa

Struggle no more and watch your student's confidence sky rocket!

I am a very passionate educator, whom is not afraid to celebrate victory with your child, as they overcome even the smallest academic hurdles. My life and career experiences have added a great deal of depth, into my insight into uniquely molding individual sessions to best suite your child. I have had 4+ years of teaching in a K-12 virtual school (still currently teaching there), as well as 1 ½ years of experience teaching in rural Alaska. In addition, I have experience teaching in moderate to intensive disability classrooms and I am also a mother to very hands on 11 year old little man. I understand a parent’s desire to meet these unique children who need a high level of hands on activities, to be able to allow them use of their entire body “in motion”, in order to help them retain their skills.

I strive to break down your student's specific areas of struggle or weakness and utilize their specific topics of interest, to help engage and connect them to the skills at hand. I've found technique has a much higher success rate, in order to help student's "retain" their newly developed skill in the same "long term" area of their brain which is also where their areas of interest are stored. This makes it much easier for them to apply their skills, with a higher level of rigor.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am experienced in teaching students with ADD and ADHD in grades K-12, as I am a licensed Intervention Specialist (mild-moderate) and have just completed my 7th continuous year of hands on experience. I understand the high need for sessions to be intensely and individually designed with high structure, shortened, repetitive, kinesthetic, tactile, and student interest related activities. I am also an experienced mother to our adopted 11yr old son, whom is daily challenged by his ADHD, RAD, ODD, OCD and PTSD. These life experiences have allowed me to build my skills in the daily design of high structure, obtaining LOTS of patience, quick on my toes ability to provide re-direction and constructive criticism, with the skills to adapt the plan on the spot, in order to accommodate their attention or behavior needs; in order to maintain a positive and teachable environment.
