Eastern Michigan University (Graduate Coursework)
My name is Michael and I hold a B.S degree in Mathematics and completed 28 hours of graduate work in Mathematics/Statistics at Eastern Michigan University. I am currently certified to teach all levels of middle and high school mathematics, physics, and economics. Prior to earning my B.S degree, my previous major was Engineering. The combination of my college course work left me with a major in mathematics, Statistics and Physics, and a minor in Chemistry and Economics. I have had additional coursework in Accounting.
I am married with 4 boys in the Loveland Schools, coach and referee soccer. This experience allows me to gain good rapport with the students I tutor and allows the lessons to be efficient since the students tend to be relaxed and ready to start.
I have had one year of experience teaching mathematics to high school students ranging from Basic Math to Pre-Calculus. I am certified to teach Mathematics, Physics and Economics in the state of Ohio. Additionally, while attending junior college, I worked as a tutor in the math lab. I also tutored my two oldest children when they completed their Geometry class in ninth grade in order to be accepted in the post-secondary option for high school students. In order for them to begin taking classes at college in 10th grade, they had to pass a math placement test at the level of College Algebra or higher. They tested just below the Calculus level after about 4 weeks of tutoring due primarily to my ability to determine which topics are most relevant. Additionally, working as an Actuary, I have demonstrated my ability to study in an efficient manner by passing a large number of Actuarial exams at a 90% passing rate when the average passing rate for actuarial exams is approximately 40%. I feel it's more important to teach a student to study properly than to just memorize facts to be forgotten after a test. This allows the student to recall more information when a midterm or final exam is given. Mr. D. was very patient in teaching both of my high school boys. They needed help in Calculus, Algebra, Chemistry and Computer Programming classes. Mr. D. explained how to do problems clearly and he often prepared before hand so that he had better ways to explain complicated problems with clear approaches. My boys learnt a lot from Mr. D., and their grades were much better than before in the above subjects since Mr. D. came to work with them.
Excellent tutor for my sons.
Mr. D provided test taking strategies in addition to the regular lesson. He reviewed tools to approach setting up the problems.
My daughter feels confident Mr. Da will make her shine in math. She feels comfortable with him and I think I did a good choice. I was looking for a tutor that really know his stuff. Looking forward to work with Mr. D.
After getting a bad score on the asvab I decided I needed help. I met with Michael and he is making me feel at ease about retaking the test. I also like how confident he is with all the math.
Michael was great, very helpful. I really was nervous that I wasn't going to be able to get this class, but he made it to where I get it and I can now get caught up on my work. Very patient and knowledgeable!
Michael is an excellent tutor. He makes the subjects very easy to understand. He has tutored my son and I on various subjects, and he is a total professional! I would highly recommend him as a tutor.
He always asked about what I needed help with before we met in case it was something he needed to brush up on and he was always very helpful. Many tutors have wasted my time and let the clock run, seemingly, so they could get more money. Michael made great use of my time.
Michael helped identify the gaps in my son's learning and get him up to speed and also reinforced good habits such as taking his time and checking his work.
Michael is an amazing teacher and guide. I really don't know what I'd do without his coaching and expertise! He helps relate the MBA finance teachings to my every day management goals!
Michael is very determined in making sure my daughter understands key concepts in algebra. Despite her retention issue, I was pleased to hear she recalled what Michael taught while in her class setting. Thank you Michael!
Michael is a very good tutor. He helped my daughter in Physics by explaining the basic concepts well. He is punctual and is willing to spend extra time without charge to make sure that the lesson is complete.
Michael is absolutely fantastic! He is so knowledgeable (even more than my instructor) and really helped me in my accounting class. He is so nice and makes learning fun!
Michael was able to understand the thrust of the problem she was having in pre-calculus and present the information in a way that made sense to her. He also provided strategies for self study. As a result, my daughter didn't need as many tutoring sessions. We will definitely call again next year when she takes calculus.
Michael has been helping me with biostatistics for the past few months and I have appreciated his patience, and overall skill as an educator. He helps me to see the big picture and offers new approaches to solve problems. Since he tutors many other subjects, he is also able to draw examples from other field of study.
Michael D.'s tutoring has been exceptional for both of my children who receive tutoring in Algebra and Geometry. Michael is dependable, flexible, and he responds quickly to phone and/or emails. Michael is a sincere tutor and his whole tutoring session is utilized well to meet my children's math needs.
Michael is an excellent accounting tutor. He was able to explain the material in a way I could understand it.
Mike is experienced as a coach as well as a teacher, and his positive "you can do it" approach has been a great confidence-builder for my daughter, who suffers from test anxiety. He also shared a lot of practical testing advice that I'm sure will pay off for her many times over the years.
Michael is an awesome tutor. My son was struggling with accounting at UC and Michael helped him raise his grade from a low C to an A-! He has flexible hours and will even take home the assignments to help the student out. He can be hard to get a hold of some times. As long as you are persistent with emails/texts/calls he will get back to you. One other thing. Michael actually sat in on my son's class several times. He didn't ask for any additional money for doing that. He went above and beyond.
Michael worked with our teenager on chemistry and algebra 2 curriculum. He was very patient and was able to explain the lessons at my teen's level. My teen was very comfortable with him and was able to end 10th grade with very good grades in these areas. He was flexible with his schedule in working with our teen and really was available to help our teen prepare for finals.
Michael helped our son learn about a semester's worth of material in a little over 4 weeks. He is patient and able to approach problems from different approaches and to explain in everyday terms so that our son learned the math. He has been available at short notice and odd hours to fit our schedules and is a main reason my son is graduating on time. I recommend him highly.
Michael was great with my son. We had him tutor chemistry but he also helped with geometry. Had good ideas for studying also. Highly recommend .
Michael is clearly a terrific statistics tutor. We hired him after my daughter failed a test, and she scored 100 percent on the re-take after spending a few hours with Michael. Additionally, she did very well on her final exam. We will continue to use Michael going forward. Thanks.
Michael did a great job with our son. He understood the topics currently being taught and quickly focused on the area that our son needed review on. Michael even used some of his own time to prepare so he would be more efficient when he came to tutor. We will definitely continue using him.
He helped me all the way through a semester long accounting class. He was always very punctual in fact most times early and knowledgable in the subject matter. I would have never passed this class without his help and ended up with a 94% final grade. Definitely a great tutor.
I had to take my teaching licensure test (mathematics) before I could return to school. I had taken the test five times and had not passed. Michael and I had about six tutoring sessions before my next test to raise my score. My main testing struggle was not finishing the test in the allotted time. Because of Michael I finished the test on time, passed, AND raised my score nine points! Michael was very knowledgeable and patient. He is such a great tutor and I highly recommend him!
I was impressed with Michael jumping right into the lesson. He didn't waste time, got right on the subject and started. Thanks again.
My son received Michael's tutoring during his junior year and I am proud to say he did an exception job. Michael doesn't only teach for the school curriculum but also teaches skills for college as well as the fundamental concepts for why the science or math is the way it is. He is quite patient and makes sure to cater to any of your child's needs. He has a vast amount of knowledge about the topics he teaches and makes sure to bring relevant information and useful techniques to tackle any problems. Overall, I would highly recommend Michael to any other parent as he shows genuine care for his students and their learning.
I was struggling in college level physics at Miami university. I had trouble understanding the concepts and finding the right answers for homework. Mr. D. went over my homework with me to understand how to approach each problem to obtain the right solution. My grade has risen since our sessions began and am very thankful I took lessons from him.
Michael was able to assist me through a difficult calculus III course. He often spent extra time outside of our sessions reviewing the material and was always well prepared when we met. My mission was to successfully pass the course, and with Michael's help I received a B+.
Michael has done a great job tutoring our son. He is always prompt and prepares in advance for whatever lesson my son is studying. Will be hiring again.
Michael came to my home and sat down with my son and I at the kitchen table. Within a couple of minutes, I could tell Michael was genuinely interested in helping my son. Things went so well that we lost track of time and actually spent longer than an hour discussing a game plan for helping my son catch up. Before, my son had all but given up and I had done everything I knew to try to motivate and assist him. After just one meeting with Michael, I could tell my son was prepared to work hard, and I could see determination in his eyes instead of defeat.
If you are looking for a tutor that is there because he truly cares about your student, Michael should be your first choice. He's not doing this for the money; he's doing it to make a difference. On a scale of 1 to 5, he's really a 6. His knowledge and teaching methodology get results and make him stand out among among his peers as a highly professional educator and a tremendous asset for WyzAnt.
Michael is very thorough and responsible person, and very ethical.
I was very pleased with my experience with Michael, as I was preparing for a standardize test. Micheal is knowledgeable on various subjects, and provided good material to help me learn. Within a couple of weeks, I was confident with test taking strategies and the ability to analyze problems efficiently. He was flexible around my schedule, and was always punctual.
Michael is not only friendly, patient & understands I haven't been in a classroom setting in years, but, he breaks his lessons down to your level of understanding, he even relates his lessons to everyday life! I am so glad my wife chose to contacted him! My confidence level is up! I have an important test to take and I am sure with Mike's tutoring, I may not get the highest score, but I will come close! I look forward to his tutoring! This man can tutor anyone on any level! Thanks Mike and thanks WyzAnt!

My 10th grade son had a Geometry test and needed some last minute tutorial instruction prior to taking the test. Michael met with my son on the eve of the test and was able to give him some very helpful instruction. My son's grade has dramatically improved as a result of Michael's lesson. Thanks, Michael!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
