I am a recently retired elementary teacher with over thirty years experience. I have my BA in elementary education from the University of Cincinnati, as well as my Masters degree in Teacher Leadership in Education through Wright State University. I am currently certified 1-8 and continue to attend classes to upgrade and keep license current.I have taught special education, as well as fourth and second grade. I am also substitute teaching at all levels, as well as tutoring at all levels, including special needs, helping me to stay current both in trends, standards , assessments, curriculum and practices.
As a tutor, I utilize assessments that are both informal,as well as formal. For example, if reading seems to be a problem, I may listen to the child read to become aware of the type of problem that the child may be having, as well as the best approach to remediation. These problems may involve comprehension, use of context clues, or perhaps word decoding. I also administer reading checklists to assess these types of skills, as well as to determine comfortable reading level. I use materials that are fun, engaging and up to date within my sessions based upon individual student needs. I often use current childrens' book lists from the library, making choices based upon interest, as well as coinciding with current reading level. I also get to know the child's learning style to find out the type of learner that he/she may be: visual, auditory, hands-on or perhaps a combination of modalities. I am also familiar with many online resources to assist in your child's educational needs and interests.
I also have much experience in the field of test prep, administration, scoring and interpretation at all levels, along with lesson planning accordingly. I feel that I am able to help your child in terms of gaining confidence and enjoyment through learning experiences!
I also maintain current BCI and FBI background checks and am willing to accommodate your schedule, as well as negotiate price!
