Southern Illinois University (Master's)
I am in the process of finishing up my Master's thesis from Southern Illinois University, where I was a Teaching Assistant for two years in the history department. I also have a Bachelors in Communications/Public Relations from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelors in History from Kent State.
My final year at Kent State I was a private tutor for an Honors student from Jackson High School and am happy to report that she is now attending an Ivy League university, and I was very happy to help her. I also knew French and German (I read them better than speaking them though). I love helping others learn and teaching and tutoring is a pleasure for me as I can witness students grasp concepts and ideas that will further their education.
I have published two short volumes of free-verse poetry and am currently working on a novel. As a history major in undergraduate school at Kent State, I took many writing intensive courses and have written papers ranging in length from 15-45 pages. Through writing papers of this length I have amassed a considerable vocabulary, but I can also improve. I was a history major in undergraduate school and took courses on the U.S. Civil War, pre-modern and modern U.S. history, Colonial Virginia, histories on Asia (China, Japan, and Southeast), and modern Europe. In graduate school I took courses on transnational history, the Holocaust, Europe, and the Middle East. As a graduate student I taught one semester of modern U.S. history, one semester of World History (Paleolithic to 1400), and then two semesters of World History (1400-present).

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
