State University of New York at Buffalo (Communications)
I began tutoring while in college, helping provisional freshman students succeed. I help students reach higher, encouraging them along the way. I have been a successful public speaker, so I am at ease with a variety of ages, personalities and culture groups, and enjoy what I equally learn from my students. Whenever I have the opportunity, I tutor.
I have tutored as young as 3rd grade to adult. I do not write papers for students, but am very patient with those who feel intimidated at the thought of writing. I was given the same opportunity when I was young by a very wonderful Uncle who led me along the way to writing and that's why I love to pay it forward.
I gained a certificate from the State of New York as a Master Tutor, due to my success in tutoring for the State University of New York at Buffalo while I was a student. I have a wealthy vocabulary, having studied the Thesaurus to entertain myself when I was young. I can get the tough students going, as long as they are willing to try. I have over 4 years of experience in teaching ESL/Speaking/Reading, at the beginning to moderate levels.
You are in good hands, students! I have many tools in my arsenal to help you. I only ask you show up, cooperate with my instructions, and practice what you learn as we go along. For children, I find what they enjoy and then we learn the lessons through the topics that interest them. I have a good sense of humor, and students seem to get comfortable with me right away. I'm not afraid to challenge you beyond what you believe you can do. I began tutoring while in college, helping provisional freshman students succeed. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have ten years of experience public speaking to a variety of audiences, including children in schools, at fairs, festivals, business venues, and conventions.
I was twice awarded Notable Speaker from a national public speaking organization.
When I teach public speaking, I help my tutee develop a succinct and interesting presentation, I critique demeanor, urge the speaking style that matches the personality of the speaker and the audience.
I have tutored students for over 8 years. I use methods that attract the student to the subject. This relaxes them and doesn't "force" the work. My years of experience in telling stories to children in schools to encourage literacy has aided much in my ability to encourage them in the delight of reading.
