About Saskia

Currently a full-time, certified high school counselor, I have been working with students and their families across all grade levels, developmental abilities, and socio-economic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds for over 20 years.

I provide tutoring and academic skills support for students seeking a holistic, caring, and individualized approach. I believe that in order to effectively learn, a student must feel valued and understood. In addition to providing tutoring in academic subjects, I also provide support in the development of effective organizational, time management, and study skills, as well as social skills support. My ultimate goal is to help each student I work with discover their own potential for excellence and develop a lifelong love of learning and a meaningful connection between what is being learned in the classroom with long term goals and dreams.

I will take the time to individualize my approach for each student, ensuring that students feel supported and challenged, feeling stronger and more skilled after every session.

I have been commended for my ability to form strong relationships with the students, parents, and clients I have worked with, as well as for my dedication and resourcefulness in finding ways to help them overcome their challenges and achieve their goals. I have a longstanding track record for having excellent communication and organizational skills, energy, warmth, integrity, and a strong work ethic.

I have a strong understanding of math concepts, and am especially adept at helping students understand the different approaches to thinking through given problems, including Common Core. I am comfortable working with math levels up through Algebra 1.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's in School Counseling, which includes a strong emphasis on psychology.

Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked for several years as a public relations account executive, with a heavy emphasis on producing excellently written press releases, papers, and promotional articles. I was in-house editor for each agency I worked for. During college, I was also the Assistant Editor for my college newspaper.
