I am a mom of two young children and am very patient. Part of what makes me a good tutor is this patience and also taking great pleasure in seeing my kids navigate the world and taking part in their curiosity and desire to learn all that they can about everything they see and experience. I want to help people succeed, I want them to enjoy learning new things, I want to help them take the steps they need to keep moving forward with their goals.
While I don't have formal experience tutoring, I have worked in a public library for nearly 20 years, promoting reading, writing and a love of learning through teaching creative programs to teens and adults, engaging in one-on-one assistance with computers, books, reader's advisory and general information gathering with a diverse public. I have always loved reading and writing and pursued that in my college education. I have a Bachelor's degree in Humanities and Arts and Sciences and focused on literature. I also have a Master's of Library and Information Science. My work as a librarian and now as a tutor allows me to share my love of reading with others and hopefully help them to experience these subjects in a positive way and feel confident in their abilities and knowledge of the subjects so that they can succeed in their endeavors. My undergraduate education paired with my love of reading and writing and work as a public librarian give me a solid foundation and background in helping the public. I have worked promoting reading, learning, and writing to a diverse public, many with limited English, from all walks of life, and on different levels of education.
I am looking forward to working with you and helping you meet your goals. I am kind, patient and have a positive attitude and hope that all these qualities will encourage you to let me work with you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been cooking since I was a teenager and now own a restaurant and develop specials for that restaurant and have worked many shifts cooking there.
I grew up learning hand lettering and handwriting from my graphic artist grandfather. I have two children that I have taught handwriting to in conjunction with their schooling. I think handwriting is important and I love it.
I have a BA in Humanities and Literature and a Master's of Library and Information Science and currently work in a library. Reading and writing are definitely my academic strong points.
